Since 1997 I've been a teacher specialising in ESL and EFL (English as a Second/Foreign Language) and over the years I've written a fair amount of educational material.  Some of it has been for my own classroom use and some of it has been for publication.

I've written two ESL/EFL books for Black Cat, an Italian publisher specialising in classroom language learning. I first came in contact with these books while I was teaching in Japan, and started writing for them soon after I moved to Ireland. The English Speaking World is my latest.  I'm very pleased with the prominent position of the Canadian flag in this picture.

I also had fun writing a very simple version of A Midsummer Night's Dream, for younger learners.

Most Black Cat readers and adaptations are beautifully illustrated and include at least forty pages of activities - I've used Black Cat books in the classroom, and personally I think they beat the pants off Penguin and Oxford's line of adaptations. The Moonstone

dream come trueIn addition to the two books above, I've worked on several other Black Cat titles, writing activities to supplement the main text.  I've supplied activities for versions of The Moonstone by Wilkie Collins, Moonfleet by John Meade Falkner, Stories of Ghosts and Mysteries, a collection of three adapted tales by Nathaniel Hawthorne, Rudyard Kipling, and Sheridan Le Fanu, as well as my personal favourite, A Dream Come True - an original story by Black Cat author Andrea M. Hutchinson about a girl who gets to hang out with her favourite rock star at Glastonbury.
