Song 65 Images in Vogue

Counting Down! Whee!

I'm starting this countdown on 26 December because today is known as St Stephen's Day in Ireland (my narrator and protagonist is named Stephen), and also because the action of the novel itself closes on the 26th of December, 1987. Wish me luck on my coping mechanism/very modest publicity stunt. 65 songs till publication day!

Images in Vogue - Lust for Love, 1983

'You mistook my lust for love! Didn't you!' Well, she won't be doing that again in a hurry. Here's what I like about this: it's a Canadian band, there's a great upward sweep of synthesizers at the chorus, the song was never that popular or even cool, and the vocals and hairstyles appear reassuringly quaint now, though they must have seemed almost threatening to me at the age of thirteen. This song loitered around the 30s on Casey's Top 40 for a few weeks and ended up on one of my K-Tel tapes. Don't watch if you have an aversion to spiders, nooses, very red lipstick and big hats, or people singing to their own corpses. If you're fond of all of these, enjoy.
